Read About Our Student's Successes
These are just a few of the many success stories from the thousands of families who have trained at Kickaro’s Martial Arts. Each one reflects the confidence, growth, and progress students experience through consistent training.
From Shy to Strong: James’ Confidence Journey
When James first walked through the doors at Kickaro’s, he was a fun loving and energetic boy who wasn’t quite sure of himself yet. He loved to move and play, but he was shy in new situations and often held back when he didn’t know what to expect. His parents wanted an activity that could channel all that wonderful energy while helping him grow into the confident kid they knew he could be.
In those early classes he was quiet, unsure, and stayed close to the wall while he tried to figure out this new world of karate. But something clicked. The positive encouragement from his instructors, the fun atmosphere, and the chance to learn at his own pace helped him open up little by little.
A year later, he walks into class with his shoulders back and a huge smile on his face. He greets everyone, shows Mr. Mike his “muscles,” and jumps into warm ups with excitement. He loves learning new moves and proudly shows his mom everything he has mastered.
For his family, the transformation has been incredible to watch. James now looks forward to trying new things and believes in himself in ways he never did before. They wanted a place where he could grow and feel safe. What they found was a community that helped him become the best version of himself.
And they could not be more proud of how far he has come.
From Fearful to Fearless: Our Son’s Breakthrough
When we first tried to get our son into activities, nothing worked. We tried soccer, lacrosse, running… and every attempt ended with tears and frustration. He didn’t want to participate, and I eventually stopped pushing because it caused more stress than joy.
Then we came across Kickaro’s Martial Arts and decided to give it a try. After a one-on-one with Mr. Mike, he seemed excited. But once group classes started, we saw the same struggles again. He clung to me, cried, and refused to wear the uniform. I honestly wondered if this would just be another activity he wanted nothing to do with.
What made the difference this time was the support. Mr. Mike and Ms. Kris were patient, encouraging, and completely understanding. They worked with him at his pace and never gave up on him. Even on the tough days he would tell me he loved class, he was just scared around the other kids.
Little by little, things started to change. One day he put on his uniform. Then he began participating with more confidence. And by March, he proudly brought home the paper for his Yellow Belt test and couldn’t wait to have the whole family come cheer him on.
Seeing him grow more comfortable, more confident, and genuinely proud of himself has been incredible. Karate has become a turning point for him, giving him the courage to try new things and believe in himself. We are so proud of how far he has come and excited to see where this journey leads him next.
From Hesitant Beginner to Confident Leader
Our karate journey began when our younger son Andrew, then six, wanted to try a class. We brought his older brother Joshua along, even though he insisted karate “wasn’t his thing.” He was intimidated by the physical side of it and wasn’t eager to try. But from the moment we walked into Kickaro’s, Mr. Michael made both boys feel welcome and engaged.
Andrew was hooked immediately. Joshua, on the other hand, still wasn’t sure. Even though he enjoyed the trial, he didn’t feel confident enough to commit. We had several talks about trying new things, and Michael shared how he saw himself in Joshua at that age. That connection helped, and eventually Joshua agreed to give it a real try. Honestly, we weren’t sure he’d last more than a few months.
Fast forward a few years, and Joshua has surprised us all. He and Andrew moved through several belt levels side by side, and we watched Joshua’s confidence grow with every class. When Andrew had to stop due to other commitments, Joshua chose to continue on his own. He now trains two to three times a week and talks about earning his black belt someday.
Watching him on the mat now, at almost twelve, is incredible. The shy, unsure boy who once hesitated to try something new has grown into a strong, confident leader who helps younger students and pushes himself every class. We credit so much of his growth to the support and encouragement he receives at Kickaro’s. Michael believes in him and helps him become the best version of himself. We are truly grateful for the positive impact Kickaro’s has had on Joshua’s life.
